A Visit to Where It All Began: Honoring Adetokunbo Koya at His Alma Mater

On what would have been his 50th birthday, we returned to where his story began.

As the morning sun broke through the quiet streets of Ogun State, our team arrived at the gates of Ijebu-Ode Grammar School — the secondary school that helped shape the remarkable journey of Adetokunbo Adebayo Koya.

This wasn’t just a visit.

It was a homecoming.

It was a tribute.

And above all, it was the beginning of something much bigger.

A Legacy Rooted in Education

For those who knew him, Adetokunbo was more than a beloved son, brother, friend, or father. He was a bridge builder. A man who valued education not as a privilege, but as a responsibility. Even in his quiet moments, he often spoke of the schools and teachers that molded his values.

So it felt only right that the Adetokunbo Koya Foundation would begin right here — in the classrooms and hallways where his dreams first took flight.

Meeting the Future He Dreamed Of

We were warmly welcomed by the school principal, staff, and students. Some of them weren’t even born when Adetokunbo graduated. Yet, they stood proudly — eager to hear stories about an old student whose life now serves as a torch for others.

We shared photos, laughed over old yearbook entries, and listened to stories from teachers who remembered him. But we also listened. Closely. To the students. To their challenges. To their hopes.

These quiet revelations lit a new fire in us.

Activating the Mission: Not Funds, But Function

To mark his posthumous 50th birthday, we officially activated the Adetokunbo Koya Foundation — not with a gala, but with a promise:

To connect those who want to help with schools that need it most — not through money, but through meaningful items that directly impact students’ education.

We’re starting with Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, and will gradually extend to other underserved schools, one community at a time.

A New Chapter Begins

As we placed a small commemorative plaque in front of the classroom where Adetokunbo once sat, we knew this was only the first page of a much longer story.

This foundation is not about remembering someone who is gone — it’s about continuing what he stood for.Education. Dignity. Opportunity.

We thank Ijebu-Ode Grammar School for opening their doors to us.

And we thank you — for walking this new journey with us.

In honor of Adetokunbo Adebayo Koya —
May his light lead us forward.
